This year’s Dr Mzee Gutu Half Marathon will be bigger and better with over US$80 000 in prizes set to be dished out to winners as the nation remembers the late Vice President Dr Simon Vengesai Muzenda who died in September 2003.
This year’s half marathon will be held on November 2 at Mpandawana Town with the expanded annual commemorative race set to include a musical gala and traditional dance competition.
A preparatory meeting for the event was held this morning at Paradise Park Hotel at Mpandawana where the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs in the Office of the President and Cabinet and Gutu Senator Lovemore Matuke said this year’s Dr Mzee Gutu Half Marathon will be bigger and better.

He said this is a special way of paying homage to the late Soul of the Nation who was so passionate about nurturing talent, especially amongst disadvantaged members of society.
Minister Matuke appealed to the corporate world and individuals across the length and breadth of the country to chip in towards the successful hosting of the event as a way of honouring the late veteran nationalist.
The late Vice President Muzenda’s eldest son, Captain Vengai Vitalis Muzenda, said they want to remember the late national hero by hosting a bigger and better Dr Mzee Gutu Half Marathon that will attract competitors from all corners of Zimbabwe.
This year’s event will include an all-night musical gala and traditional dance competition with winners in various categories pocketing prizes ranging from US$150 to U$3 000.
