TAWANDA Chirewa has declared himself fit and raring to go after completing his injury rehabilitation at parent club Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Chirewa is plotting to play a decisive role in Barnsley’s promotion push in the English League One. Chirewa returned to Oakwell this week following a spell back at Molineux to recover from the injury that sidelined him during a promising start to his loan spell.
Speaking to Zimpapers after his return, Chirewa made no secret of his belief that he can impact for better for his club in the defining stretch of the season.
“I am back, I am fit, and I’m ready to fire,” Chirewa said.
“The injury was a setback, but I used every day at Wolves to make sure I returned stronger.
“I have been watching this group, and I know what’s at stake. I didn’t come here to watch from the sidelines.” Barnsley confirmed Chirewa’s return in a social media post yesterday, welcoming the attacking midfielder back to the fold.
Manager Darrell Clarke is expected to integrate him into first-team training immediately, with the club currently locked in a competitive battle for a possible top-six finish.
Barnsley are currently on 50 points, 11 points behind sixth-placed Reading.
Chirewa, who joined on a season-long loan from Wolves, made an immediate impression before injury curtailed his involvement.
He now believes the timing of his return could prove pivotal. “The play-offs are the goal, there’s no hiding from that,” he said.
“I am coming back at the business end of the season. The rehab is done. Now it’s about delivering when it matters most.”
Barnsley are set to face Burton away tomorrow before hosting Plymouth on Monday. Chirewa will be expected to be part of the Matchday squad and he is fired up. “I have done the work,” he said. “I am ready to go.”
