Two thieves from Chitungwiza will spend three years in prison for stealing four wheels from a female teacher’s vehicle, leaving it balanced on bricks.
They also stole asbestos roof ridges, a kitchen sink and window frames valued at US$2 000. Weston Chibaya (28) and his friend Clayton Musakwa (33) both of Chitungwiza were last week convicted on their own plea of guilty to two counts of theft.
Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Kudakwashe Jarabini slapped them with five years each, but conditionally set aside a year for five years.
Proved facts were that on October 22 Mercy Chituwu (34) a teacher at Seke 6 Primary School parked her car, a Toyota Harrier and went to bed at around 11pm.
During the night, Chibaya and Musakwa went to Ms Chituwu’s house where they scaled her security wall.
While inside, they stole all the wheels leaving the car on bricks.
When Ms Chituwu woke up the next morning, she was surprised to see her vehicle’s wheels missing.
Three days later, the two proceeded to Kainos Mharadzi’s house in the same area. Upon arrival, they cut the security wire and stole 16 asbestos roof ridges, a kitchen sink and two window frames.
They sold the loot to Augustine Mutanhure and Sophia Mutungwazi of the same area.
The two were arrested on September 30 after detectives received a tip off from the public.
They admitted they had committed the crimes and led detectives to where they had sold the loot.
Mr Edmond Ndambakuwa prosecuted.
