A 32-year-old Chitungwiza man has been arrested by police detectives in Beitbridge town who found him in possession of cocaine with a street value of $54 255 on Wednesday afternoon.
Philip Nyahodza was not asked to plead to contravening a section of the Criminal Law (codification and reform) Act when he appeared before Beitbridge resident magistrate Mr Takudzwa Gwazemba yesterday.
He was remanded in custody to September 17.
Prosecuting, Mr Ronald Mugwagwa said on September 1, at around 2 pm, police detectives from Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Drugs and Narcotics section received information about the accused being in possession of dangerous drugs and that he was due to meet someone at Engen service station.
The court further heard that the detectives then went to the service station where they laid an ambush for Nyahodza whom they later identified as described by their source and intercepted him upon arrival.
They then conducted a body search on him and found two sachets of cocaine in his back pocket which they then took to the police station for testing.
The results confirmed that the accused was in did carrying cocaine. The drugs were then weighed on Thursday morning and recorded 0.006 kilogrammes which are valued at $54 255 on the street market. @tupeyo
