Chitungwiza to clear salary arrears

Chitungwiza Municipality will this month start paying workers’ June to October 2022 salary arrears in US dollars.

Acting mayor Kiven Mutimbanyoka said council will pay the equivalent at the obtaining official bank rate on the day of payment.

Mutimbanyoka said council managed to pay salaries and bonuses with ease using its own resources last year.

“We are working towards ensuring our employees receive their salaries on the 25th of each month starting from this month.

“All five months’ salary arrears to be calculated in US dollars using the day’s prevailing exchange rate,” he said.

He said the recruitment of employees, from casuals to permanent positions, will be conducted formally through application processes since councillors are not recruiting agencies.

“We have decided to cut unnecessary workshops, and only successful candidates will be engaged after their job application has been accepted.

“Errant employees to face disciplinary measures without fear or favour, and they should desist from engaging in corrupt tendencies as there will be serious consequences.”
