SHEPHERD Chiwaya successfully defended his Harare Amateur Golf Championship title at Wingate Park and Golf Club over the weekend.

Chiwaya went for a play-off with Darlington Chikanyambidze after both players finished on one-under-par after the three rounds on Sunday.

The Wingate-based player, who also won the tournament last year at Ruwa Country Club, said he is happy with the win which came after hard work.

“I am very happy to have managed to win a tournament in a long time. This has helped me to gain confidence ahead of more upcoming national tournaments. Defending your title is always tough as they always say a course has no memory but I am happy that I managed to do that.

“We had a strong field and most of the players I have played with them and they are competitive. I am looking forward to more tournaments and I am grateful to the Zimbabwe Golf Association for such tournaments which prepare us as we look forward to turning professional in the near future,” said Chiwaya.

First-round leader Tom Sinclair finished third at four-under-par, while Munesu Chimhini was fourth. Look Rooney and Edward John finished tied on position five as teenage sensation Nathan Van Rooyen was sixth while Michael Wallace finished eight.
