CHOPPIES Zimbabwe has donated groceries worth more than $5, 000 to Entembeni Old People’s Home in Bulawayo as part of its corporate responsibility.
The goods included mealie-meal, cooking oil, salt, soap, detergents, rice, toiletries, and sugar among other goods.
Presenting the consignment on Thursday , Choppies group executive chairman and director Ambassador Phelekezela Mphoko, said it was important for the coporate world to remember institutions such as Entembeni.
“When God gives it’s important to share what you have with other people. As Choppies we share with the general population through reducing prices of our goods and make them affordable to many,” said Ambassador Mphoko.
“This is the essence of the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim-Asset). It has always been our principle as the Choppies family to donate to the needy. We do not enjoy gaining all the time and we believe it’s important to give back to the community.”
The Matron of the home, Catherine Chiponda, expressed gratitude to Choppies for the donation and said the home entirely depended on donations.
“We’re grateful to Choppies for this kind gesture. It’s good that the coporate world remembers institutions like ours which rely entirely on donations. “The old people that are resident here are classified as destitutes and they don’t pay anything for the services rendered to them. This means that we have to be funded by social services but funding has not been forthcoming,” she said.
Chiponda said the home was also in need of a washing machine as the one that they have has broken down.
