Choral group with orphans at heart

WATERFALLS-BASED choral gospel outfit, Dovaredenga, has orphans  and vulnerable people at heart.

The youthful ensemble has vowed to use their influence and raise basic needs to change the lives of the less privileged people at different care homes.

In an interview with H-Metro, group leader Anorld Mazise, 21, said they saw it fit to start a group as a way of giving back to the community.

“We did not start music for the sake of money, we wanted to minister the word of God. We also wish to give back to the community, through our music, some of the money we get, we want to use it to help others. Our number one aim is to help out children from Matthew Rusike, Jairos Jiri and other orphanages, and also people from different care homes,” said Mazise.

He said the group was assembled as a result of being congregant of the same church.

“We are a group of 15 men from the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe who started singing together in 2010.

“We discovered each other’s talents at church and, since jobs are hard to come by, we decided to form a musical group.

“In 2021, we went into the studio and started recording music,” he told H-Metro.

According to Mazise, the group uses traditional instruments when making music.

“Each and everyone in our group has their own talents and these all help in the perfection of our music.

“Since the Methodist Church is all about instruments, we make our music using different traditional instruments like horns and shakers. We saw the need to minister the word of God through music and that’s what we have been doing,” he said.

To date, Dovaredenga has released one album  and a series of singles.

“Our first album was released in 2021 and it was called Rugare.

“We started working on the second one that we wanted to release in 2021 but we could not finish recording because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We then started working on a single that we recently released called Tumai Mweya,” he said.

Mazise added: “We have seen how people have been receiving our music and we are very appreciative of that.

“Right now we are working towards finishing the album we wanted to release in 2021 so that we give people what they want.

“Over the years we have been performing at church functions, weddings and even funerals. We want a lot of people to know about our work and who we are.

“We also wish to get airplay on different radio stations,” said Mazise.
