ZIMPAPERS Bulawayo branch yesterday donated an assortment of groceries to Ekuphumuleni Geriatric Nursing Home in Bulawayo as it continues to extend its festive cheer to the communities that have supported it over the years.
The donation is part of the media house’s 120 years celebrations and a way of ploughing back to the community.
The donation included sugar beans, salt, soap, cooking oil, sugar, loaves of bread and mealie-meal.
The branch circulation manager Vethi Tshuma said workers at the branch decided to celebrate the 120 years with the communities that have supported them over the years hence the decision to donate to the needy in the different communities.
“Chronicle is celebrating 120 years and many of you have definitely read the paper for many years so we want you to celebrate with us this milestone achievement,” said Tshuma.
Presenting the donation to the home, Chronicle Deputy Editor Innocent Madonko said: “Chronicle is one of the oldest institutions in Bulawayo. We’re partnering with the Bulawayo City Council in celebrating and documenting our history which is a milestone as far as we’re concerned. We operate within a community and Ekuphumuleni is doing a lot for the community.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the home, Elizabeth Rhodes who is also the matron and administrator, said the institution depends on the community for survival.
“We would like to thank you for remembering us. We’ve people from all over Zimbabwe who are from different racial backgrounds who depend on such donations,” said Rhodes.
Last week the branch donated another consignment of groceries to Emthunzini Wethemba Children’s Home which is also in Bulawayo.
