MOSES Chunga feels betrayed by the Premier Soccer League after the former Zimbabwe international was taken to court by the Chiredzi United executive in their dispute over the ownership of the club.
Chunga was last week served with a court interdict pending trial and yesterday appeared at the courts in Chiredzi and the matter was postponed to next Monday.
The club’s former organising secretary George Dhliwayo, who is fighting in Chunga’s corner, yesterday said they were not happy as they had been given assurance by the league that the case had been withdrawn from the courts.
“We (Moses Chunga and I, George Dhliwayo,) write this e-mail in a very confused state as Moses Chunga is leaving the Chiredzi Court as per Case No 483-14 (CHIREDZI FOOTBALL CLUB VS MOSES CHUNGA) registered by Charles Muchatukwa on behalf of the Club.
“Charles Muchatukwa and Joel Sithole were in court today (yesterday) representing the Club and they have requested for the postponement of the matter to 21 July 2014 as they claim they were not prepared for Moses Chunga’s response to their Court Interdict which is in contravention of ZIFA RULES & REGULATIONS SECTION 4, ARTICLE 2(h) COURT OF JUSTICE.
“We have been patient to allow for the system to work, but the events happening have reflected the greatest betrayal by an institution we trusted. We have no option but to write to Zifa seeking oral hearing to put a finality to our issues.
“We are shocked why the ‘Executive Committee’ is not being sanctioned as per the provisions of Section 2 PUNISHMENT (i) (i) of the Zifa Rules and Regulations,” said Dhliwayo in an e-mail to the PSL yesterday.
However, the league’s chief executive Kenny Ndebele said Muchatukwa and his executive could soon be summoned for a disciplinary hearing.
Ndebele said they reached an agreement with the two factions at the weekend and resolved to manage the issue within the confines of football statutes.
“The Chiredzi Executive resolved to abide by the PSL directive to withdraw the Court Order, being the peace order against Moses Chunga barring him from interfering with Chiredzi FC affairs, as the two parties had formally separated.
“The Chiredzi FC lawyer has been advised to withdraw the order in writing as a matter of urgency while at the same time PSL has been requested to retrieve players’ licenses from Chunga immediately and give them to Chiredzi FC so that football continues to be played without hindrances,” said Ndebele.
However, the Chiredzi executive insist Chunga had quit his position.
Minutes from their meeting with the PSL at the weekend suggested that Chunga is just trying to be a nuisance.
“The Club never approached the High Court on football matters. The truth of the matter is Moses Chunga unilaterally quit the club on 8 June 2014 but continued to interfere with club affairs, including inciting players to revolt against the Executive and running parallel administrative structures in the club.
“The Executive was left with no choice except to seek for a peace order so that Chiredzi FC Executive would restore order at the club, as agreed and quoted in PSL letter to the club, dated 10 July 2014.
“The former coach continued to defray the peace order by still clinging to player licences and club kit, what we believe is a ploy to ensure football is not played and the club folds under very heavy penalties from PSL, much to his pleasure as he won’t be affected by such heavy penalties,” read part of the minutes.
