A CHURCH elder who pounced on his neighbour’s wife during his long absence from home is paying dearly for his shenanigans.
Passmore Chinhoro of Delft Farm in Muchekabuwe Village was intimate with Farai Chizarira’s wife, Prisca Chizarira, several times since last year.
Chinhoro would sneak into the Chizariras’ kitchen to have quality time with Prisca as her husband was busy toiling in South Africa.
Chizarira last week dragged Chinhoro, an elder at Deeper World Ministries, to Chief Makoni’s court.
He was demanding compensation of eight beasts.
He told the court that he was alerted by his relatives that his wife was cheating with Chinhoro.
“Chinhoro is my neighbour and he stays about 300m from my homestead. He is also an elder at Deeper Word Ministries. I currently stay and work in South Africa and my wife, Prisca, stays in the village with our two children.
“Rumours started circulating that Chinhoro and Prisca were seeing each other at my house. My sister once saw Chinhoro leaving my house. One of my brothers managed to access Prisca’s phone and saw love messages between the two and forwarded them to me,” he said.
Chizarira added: “I came to Zimbabwe and confronted Prisca and she admitted dating Chinhoro. I want him to give me eight beasts for sleeping with my wife.”
Chinhoro admitted being intimate with Prisca and begged for forgiveness from both Chizarira and the court.
“It is true that I have been sleeping with Prisca at her homestead. Sometimes we use protection but sometimes we do not. I am very sorry for what I did. I don’t know what got into me. May you pass a lighter sentence because I only have two cattle,” Chinhoro pleaded.
Prisca also admitted dating the church elder. “Yes, we slept together in my house. We used the kitchen most of the time,” said Prisca.
The court found Chinhoro guilty of adultery and said his moral blameworthiness is very high considering that he is a church elder and the Chizariras’ neighbour.
“Chinhoro, what you did is unacceptable. Dating your neighbour’s wife is so disrespectful and you are shameless. You are a church elder and the community looks up to you as a role model, but you are busy destroying other people’s marriages.
“You have the guts to turn your neighbor’s kitchen into your love nest. You should pay Chizarira seven beasts and US$220 for the costs he incurred travelling from South Africa to sue you. You should also pay the court two beasts.
“Adultery is an expensive game. You cannot sleep around with married women and plead poverty when you are caught,” ruled the court.
