The Cimas iGO Pedal 2 Wellness annual cycling event that was held on Saturday at Borrowdale Office Park was aimed at promoting health and wellness while raising awareness about drug and substance abuse.
Over 250 cyclists of various ages gathered for the event.
Cimas public health officer and wellness coach, Godknows Simbarashe Muperekedzwa said cyclists have been overlooked for a very long time, adding that efforts must be stepped up for cycling to play a bigger role in addressing drug and substance abuse.
“This is the second edition of our wellness initiative. We themed this year’s event ‘Peddling against drugs and substances’ to bring people together and highlight the importance of unity in tackling these issues,” he said.
The organisation’s digital communications and public relations manager Tapfumaneyi Mugari expressed the organisation’s commitment to social well-being.
“This effort emphasises the importance of being in a social situation, allowing individuals to step away from life’s pressures.”
Zimbabwe’s national cycling team head coach Elton Muchemwa highlighted the significance of corporate involvement in raising awareness about cyclist safety.
“While we target a wellness lifestyle, there are also other elements of safety that are very key towards the protection of human life on our roads,” he said.
