TO enhance the landscape of healthcare in Zimbabwe, Cimas Health Group has officially launched Healthathon 2.0, an innovative competition aimed at fostering creativity and collaboration among students, professionals, and innovators within the healthcare sector.
The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Cimas Borrowdale offices in Harare last week.
Cimas Health Group, a hallmark of health excellence in the country, has shown a commitment to leveraging technology to improve healthcare delivery in recent times.
CEO Mr. Vuli Ndlovu emphasised the vital role innovation plays in transforming healthcare services, stating, “Cimas Health Group, as a key player in healthcare provision, remains committed to fostering technological advancements that improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare in Zimbabwe.”
Under the theme “Transforming Healthcare: Pioneering Tomorrow’s Health Solutions,” Healthathon 2.0 aims to create a dynamic platform where participants can showcase their creativity, technical skills, and problem-solving abilities.
Mr. Ndlovu noted, “With Healthathon 2.0, Cimas Health Group is setting the stage for a future where healthcare services are more efficient, accessible, and patient-centred.”
The competition will engage participants in collaborative efforts to develop practical solutions that address pressing challenges within the healthcare industry.
Mr. Ndlovu underscored that innovation is central to Cimas’ vision, which encompasses a wide range of services, including medical aid solutions, laboratory services, primary healthcare, and international travel insurance.
“Healthcare in Zimbabwe is about access, affordability, and cost,” he explained.
“We need to ask ourselves: How many people can actually access and afford healthcare? Are we reaching out to provide global standard health and wellness solutions?”
Registration for Healthathon 2.0 opened on October 14 and will close this Thursday.
The competition invites participants from across the nation, with a selection process taking place shortly after registration.
Contestants will be shortlisted based on their ideas and qualifications, followed by an induction workshop.
The “hacking” phase of the competition, where participants will intensively develop their healthcare solutions, is scheduled from Sunday until November 1.
The event will culminate in a grand finale at the Harare Institute of Technology (HIT), where finalists will present their projects to a panel of industry experts.
Participants in Healthathon 2.0 stand a chance to win substantial cash prizes, with the ultimate winner receiving US$1,500, while second and third place winners will take home US$1,000 and US$750, respectively.
Additionally, the fourth and fifth place winners will be awarded US$500 and US$400.
Beyond financial rewards, contestants will gain invaluable exposure, mentorship, and constructive feedback from seasoned professionals in the healthcare and technology sectors.
This competition not only presents a unique opportunity for participants to pitch their ideas to thought leaders but also increases the likelihood of future collaborations and the real-world implementation of innovative healthcare solutions.
As Cimas Health Group continues to champion excellence in healthcare, Healthathon 2.0 serves as a testament to its dedication to improving health outcomes for all Zimbabweans. – Follow on X @MbuleloMpofu
