Songbird Cindy Munyavi has paid homage to her career formative days through a new single titled Kadeya Deya.
The track is part of her efforts to transform her style into contemporary urban grooves.
Cindy said she blended her rich vibrant history in the genre with current trends to come up with a
new song.
“The song is a heartfelt tribute to the genre’s roots, seamlessly blending modern sounds with the timeless essence of urban grooves.
“The song is a celebration of love and connection, capturing the essence of what it means to cherish and honour those special moments with loved ones.
“The song invites listeners to embrace their feelings and create lasting memories,” said Cindy.
She said the new song takes listeners through generations of Zimbabwean urban contemporary music.
Kadeya Deya also features a verse from Fortune Mparutsa’s hit Wangu Ndega.
Mparutsa is considered one of the founding fathers in Zimbabwean Urban Grooves.
“The tribute does not only honour Mparutsa’s legacy but also reinforces my commitment to preserving and celebrating Zimbabwe’s rich musical heritage.
“It is an unapologetically urban grooves song with a nostalgic theme and feel, the kind of song that prompts you to explore your feelings for your loved ones, makes you want to fall in love, one that you would want on your wedding playlist,” she said.
Her release, ‘Tha Groove Theory,’ is ranked among some of the classic albums from the urban grooves era and still enjoys airplay many years after its debut.
With her latest release, she goes back to the genesis of it all, when the new genre made its first steps.
Cindy was part of a cluster of artists who propelled urban music at the turn of the century, inspiring a new generation of artists, even extending to the fashion side.
