THE Harare City Council has launched a gender policy review consultation process to ensure that gender equality is promoted in all its activities and service delivery.
The Council has engaged different organisations to take part in the consultation, which seeks to accommodate all stakeholders.
Shamwari Yemwanasikana director, Ekenia Chifamba, said the council asked her group to lead the consultation.
The consultation will involve interviews with different groups of people across various departments to ensure equal representation and opportunities. The City of Harare has a gender policy that was last reviewed in 2016, to align it to Sustainable Development Goal targets, and several policies guiding its gender-related operations.
“We have been consulted by City of Harare to develop a gender policy that would ensure equal representation within the different council departments and equal opportunities.
“We will be doing interviews with different groups of people in different departments to have a final draft with everyone’s voices.
“We are encouraging all people to take this gender policy review consultation seriously because it will help in promoting gender equality in society,” she said.
