A HARARE magistrate ordered a homeless man, who picked up an infant’s corpse and attempted to sell it as beef, to be mentally examined.

Stanley Marecha, 19, appeared before Harare magistrate Tapiwa Kuhudzai, accused of violating a corpse.

Magistrate Kuhudzai ordered Marecha to be mentally examined after the State submitted that he was showing signs of mental instability.

Allegations are that on Friday, at around midnight and at the corner of Rezende and Speke Avenue, Marecha approached Blessed Paradza, carrying a big black plastic bag.

Marecha told Paradza that he was selling beef.

Paradza asked to see the meat and Marecha removed a smaller plastic bag from the bigger plastic he was carrying.

Paradza found out that the beef Marecha was claiming to be selling was an infant’s corpse.

The matter was reported to police and the corpse was subsequently taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital Mortuary for proper handling pending further investigation.

Marecha will return to court on July 18 and reports from three mental health practitioners are expected to be presented.
