THE City of Harare says it will take measures to recover the debt owed to it by residents in Waterfalls, Region 1 manager Mrs Farai Mtawa has said.

This was stated following revelations by Waterfalls District Office revenue collection officer, Mrs Ngwasha, at a Ward 23 stakeholder engagement meeting on Thursday.

Ngwasha told attendees that the council is owed ZiG520 million by Waterfalls.

“So you will see our credit control department taking measures to recover the debt,” Mtawa said.

“And our Ministry has said it will not approve our 2027 budget if we have not recovered the debt,” she added.

Mtawa said that in Region 1, Waterfalls is second from last in terms of revenue collection.

“Mbare is number one, followed by the CBD,” she said.

“In the CBD, Belvedere is very responsible with its community, followed by Sunningdale. Then we have number four Hatfield, number five Waterfalls and number six Hostels.

“Please support us. I know it’s an egg-and-chicken situation, so we urge you to pay your rates,” she said.
