CITY PLAYERS CRY FOUL

HARARE City players have cried foul over unpaid salaries and signing-on fees.

Some senior players told H-Metro they are owed four months’ salaries.

The Sunshine Boys lost their Premiership status after finishing in the bottom four status in the just-ended season.

The players were recently called to a meeting where the club’s leadership promised them they were going to buy the franchise of an unnamed PSL team.

But, the players seem to have had enough of the club executive’s empty promises.

“The situation is now unbearable, we have nothing to show for this season.

“We have not been paid for the past four months,” said one senior player.

He added:

“When people see us struggling, they think that we spend recklessly, but they don’t know the truth.

“We were promised a lot of things when we joined the club.

“But, we haven’t received our signing-on fees and, to our surprise, they called us to a meeting and told us that they are not going to release us because they are buying a franchise.”

He said their situation was desperate.

“We have families who depend on us and we also have personal projects we need to invest in while we are still playing.

“We cannot continue to live like this, they need to honour our contracts.”

Harare City player, Jerry Chipangura, got a 14-month jail sentence for possession of 40 grammes of crystal meth which he intended to sell.

“Drugs are never good for society and I urge all footballers to look for better ways to make ends meet,” said another player.

“These are some things that can be avoided if our bosses pay what they owe players to prevent such circumstances, which leave some people with no choice.”
