ZIMBABWEAN Karateka Ashely Khuddu clinched seventh place out of 54 participants at the just-ended Africa Youth Tournament in Durban.
Khuddu said she was satisfied with her performances at the tournament.
“I competed against renowned countries and learnt the standards and areas which I need to improve.
“I feel so inspired and motivated by so many other young athletes in the world.
“I am striving to become better and to get to the top like other athletes.
“I am so grateful for the opportunity to just see myself on a bigger spectrum like that.
“We used to see it on TV or YouTube, but actually being there changes the way you train, and the way you do your things when you meet these people.”
The 24-year-old believes her career has taken a step forward.
“In terms of my career, it has taken me to a different level as a Zimbabwean athlete.
“I now expect myself to do better and perform at the standard of Olympic athletes.
“What’s next for me is to go for gold.
“I was so close, but I will learn and go for the top three next time. I want to become the best in Africa.”
She thanked her sponsors, among them Ambassador Edd Branson, people from her church, family and friends.
“These people believed in me. They saw the potential in me, and I am glad that I did not disappoint them, as I represented my country well.”
