City Rovers, Masvingo United renew rivalry

MUTARE-BASED ZIFA Eastern Region Division One soccer outfit, Mutare City Rovers will on Sunday clash with perennial rivals Masvingo United in a potential thriller slated for Mucheke Stadium.Mutare City Rovers affectionately known as Gusha Bhora by its multitudes of fans are currently seated on second position with 38 points, while Masvingo United is fourth with 35 points.
Hartley Academy leads the pack with 41 points.

Last weekend, Gusha Bhora enhanced their chances of promotion when they collected maximum points from ZRP Masvingo on a 3-0 score line in an exciting match played at Sakubva Stadium.
Masvingo United commonly referred to as “Una Una” also clobbered Ruwa Gunners 3 – 0.

Gusha Bhora spokesperson, Clayton “Baggio” Masekesa, said they were treating each match as equally important.
“We are aware that Masvingo United is a very good team. We are going in this game bearing in mind that we have to achieve something at the end of this football season,” said Masekesa.

“Masvingo United are also within the promotion range and we are geared for the best. Now that the match against Masvingo United will be our third one during the second half of the league, we are very confident that our coaches have assembled a strong team that will give us the desired results,” he said.

“Yes, last season we had some touching moments for us as we missed the plane to premier league by just two points and we have leant a lot. So this year, as the executive and players we will try to do our corrections.
The executive will do its best to avail the necessary support and resources to make sure that our dream comes true,” Masekesa added. He paid tribute to well-wishers and the business community for supporting the team all way through.

“We would like to thank the unwavering support from our diehard fans. They have been a very vital cog in as far as boosting moral in the team is concerned.

I am calling upon all the football lovers in Mutare and beyond to support us by attending our home and away matches.

I am therefore calling upon everyone to come and join the ship that we hope will carry us to the still waters of football prosperity,” said Masekesa. Mutare’s other Premier League aspirants and correctional services outfit,

Tenax, which has struck a rich vein of form, has also not hid their eagerness towards promotion.
The Ndega Matsika-coached team which is third on the log with 37 points will be away to Renco Mine in a match that can go either way.

Last week the team closely edged Surrey 1- 0 at Sakubva Stadium.
Log leaders Hartley Academy have 41 points and will have a tricky away assignment against Mwenezana.
