Civic society slams fresh sanctions call

Herald Reporter

A local civic organisation, Zimbabwe Citizens Forum (ZCF) has condemned in the strongest of terms the threat of further sanctions on Zimbabwe by the unelected “self-important” House of Lords in the United Kingdom.

The civic organisation said the threats are meant to hamper the ongoing re-engagement efforts by the Second Republic.

ZCF national co-ordinator, Mr Taurai Gakanje said it was high time the people of Zimbabwe learn from their past against being used by people and nations seeking to score cheap political goals.

“We find such threats to be callous, treacherous and ill-intentioned and neo-colonial.

“We need no better time to remind the purveyors of sanctions and economic slavery that we are a sovereign and independent state with a competent leadership and citizenry.

“As a nation we do not need prefects and world head boys to regularly determine a destiny for us as the era of colonialism and imperialism is long gone,” said Mr Gakanje.

Mr Gakanje called upon the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade to summon the American Ambassador and caution him against alarming and immoral diplomacy

“Similarly, the refusal by the Americans to heed the citizens’ call for the unconditional removal of sanctions calls for stronger action that includes, but not limited to, declaring the current ambassador a persona non grata stemming from his usual interference with our internal affairs and his clear unhinged repugnant acts of sowing division among our people through Nicodemously sponsoring rogue civic society and fifth column journalism, including that of Hopewell Chin’ono,”

He said that Zimbabwe is a free country, charting its own course and destiny.

“International views on our state of affairs plays second fiddle to our interests. The previous generation was successful in defeating colonialism and it is our duty to defeat neo-colonialism. We encourage the legislature to support Vision 2030 by promulgating the Patriot Act, that will declare those calling for sanctions, those being co-opted by foreign governments and those receiving dirty money to cause despondency, criminals. Selling Zimbabwe out and tarnishing its image on the international arena should be tackled and eliminated now and not in the future,” said Mr Gakanje.
