Civil registry commemorations bounce back

THE Civil Registry Department yesterday hosted the commemoration of civil registration, for the first time, since 2019.

The annual event was cancelled, for the past two years, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Scores of people marched from Simon Muzenda Street Bus Terminus to Rainbow Towers Hotel where the event took place.

A lucky few had birth certificates and national identity cards processed.

Registrar General, Henry Machiridzi, told H-Metro that the commemorations went as planned.

“It was like a celebration whereby our stakeholders have a vital role to play.

“We also have the Ministry of Health and Child Care who were part of it,” he said.

Peter Chikaka, from Domboshava, said he was having difficulties getting his national documents.

“I lost my birth certificate and national identity card and when I tried to reapply, I was told that I was not in the system.

“I am glad things will change now,” he said.

Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister, Kazembe Kazembe, graced the event.
