RISING gospel act, Cleo Arie, may be a newcomer but she is already rewriting the script of how gospel music can sound and feel like.

Her album launch, held at The Venue in Avondale, Harare, aptly dubbed ‘Purpose’ was not just a musical showcase, it was a statement of intent.

From the moment she stepped on the stage, it was clear this was not going to be a conventional gospel night.

Cleo Arie delivered a high-energy set that fused gospel with hip-hop influences, creating a refreshing hybrid that instantly connected with a youthful, style-conscious crowd.

The venue was packed to capacity, with fans turning up in bold, expressive outfits which mirrored the artist’s own confident aesthetic, a crowd which clearly understood the assignment.

Her performance was tight, vibrant and commanding.

Backed by crisp production and sharp choreography, Cleo Arie showed poise beyond her years, owning the stage like a seasoned headliner.

It is a remarkable leap for an artist who only recently shared the spotlight at Minister Michael Mahendere’s July Music Festival, where she proved she could hold her own among established names.

Now, with Purpose, she is stepping firmly into her own lane.

What makes Cleo Arie stand out is her ability to balance message and modernity. Her music does not dilute the gospel.

Instead, it repackages it in a way that speaks directly to a younger generation raised on diverse sounds.

The hip-hop undertones, rhythmic flows and confident delivery give her an edge that feels both authentic and intentional.

Supporting acts, Sharon Cherayi and Joyful Praise Choir, brought their A-game, ensuring the energy never dipped.

Sharon Cherayi delivered a soulful and polished set that blended seamlessly with the night’s youthful pulse, while Joyful Praise Choir injected vibrant harmonies and spirited choreography that kept the audience fully engaged.

Together, they helped create a cohesive show that celebrated both tradition and evolution within gospel music.

The crowd’s response was electric throughout.

Every beat drop, every chorus, every call-and-response moment was met with enthusiasm.

It was particularly striking how the audience, largely made up of young people, remained fully immersed, singing along and dancing with purpose, quite literally embodying the theme of the night.
