Police arrested Clr Takavarasha and Mr Elson Simazalo (34) for public fighting and locked them up in the same cell at Shurugwi Central Police Station.
But the two men were so angry with each other that they had the nerve to resume their fight in the cells.
Mr Simazalo said he beat Clr Takavarasha demanding to know why he sold the stand twice.
In an interview yesterday, Mr Simazalo said his public fight with Clr Takavarasha at Peak Bar in Shurugwi was over the stand.
He said their fight had nothing to do with the general poor state of service delivery by council.
Mr Simazalo said he bought a residential stand, number 1009 in Sebanga Extension from Clr Takavarasha but later learnt that the same stand had been sold to another person.
“We then discussed the issue while we were drinking beer at Peak Bar. I confronted the councillor and asked him why he was so corrupt to the extent of selling the same stand to two different people. This was when he became violent and shoved me out of the bar while arguing that he was the owner of the bar simply because the bar was council property,” said Mr Simazalo, who works for Falcon Gold Mine.
Mr Simazalo said it was during the scuffle that Clr Takavarasha started punching him.
“We exchanged blows and when he felt that I was overpowering him, he resorted to empty bottles but the police quickly moved in and arrested the two of us,” he said.
Mr Simazalo said he was angry to the extent that he went on to beat Clr Takavarasha while the two were in police cells as he felt highly provoked by the councillor’s attitude over the stand.
“While we were in police cells, he continued to brag about how he had duped me of the stand. I then became angry and we started fighting while in the police cells until police officers separated us. I smeared him with human waste, which was in the cell we were sharing and this is when he called for help,” he said.
Mr Simazalo said they spent Saturday night in police cells before they were later released after paying $10 each as admission of guilty fine.
He accused Shurugwi councillors of corruption adding that he would confront Clr Takavarasha for a refund.
“I will confront him again because I want my money. He was even bragging of having duped me of the money but I will make sure that I get my money back,” he said.
Clr Takavarasha declined to comment on the allegations levelled against him by Mr Simazalo.
He cut off his mobile phone when he was pressed for comment. “If he told you about that stand, he probably wanted you to help him. So help him and stop calling me,” he said before cutting off.
Shurugwi Town Council chairman Clr Bulle Madzitire, had earlier on confirmed the fight between Clr Takavarasha and Mr Simazalo.
He, however, could not be reached for comment yesterday.
