Watch: CLUCKING CRAZY! Byo man drops R4 500 on fancy rooster!

WOULD YOU SPLASH R4 500 ON A CHICKEN? One Bulawayo man did — and he’s not clucking mad about it!

Meet Mr Taffy Chiwashira, a no-nonsense chicken breeder from Kumalo suburb, who raised eyebrows this week after revealing he spent a jaw-dropping R4 500 (about US$250) on a single exotic rooster imported all the way from South Africa!

And no, it doesn’t lay golden eggs.

The bird in question? A Frizzle Buff Orpington — a rare and flamboyant breed known for its puffed-up, curly feathers and top-tier genetics. For Chiwashira, this wasn’t just poultry — it was a game-changer.
“People think I’m crazy, but this rooster is the real deal,” he told B-Metro with a proud grin. “It took the original breeder years to perfect this line. For me, it’s not just a bird — it’s an investment in breeding excellence.”

Chiwashira started small back in 2014, raising humble road runners in his backyard. But over the years, the man grew from a weekend chicken hustler into a serious exotic bird boss, now boasting an impressive collection of rare breeds.

With his latest high-roller rooster, he hopes to take his breeding game to the next level.
“Chicken breeding is a delicate art,” he said. “It’s not for the faint-hearted. You need patience, passion, and a pocket that can take a punch.”

And punched, it was.

While some neighbours might be whispering behind the fence about his pricey poultry, Chiwashira says the bird’s genetic value and breeding potential will pay off in top-dollar chicks and premium eggs.

Social media had a field day, with one commenter writing: “That bird better cook itself, serve me, and wash the dishes for that kind of money!”

But the Kumalo chicken king isn’t fazed.
“Everyone has their thing. Some people buy iPhones, some buy shoes. I buy champion chickens,” he laughed.

And if this rooster starts delivering the top-tier offspring Chiwashira is banking on, he might just have the last cluck.
