A BULAWAYO man has been arrested for possessing cocaine with an estimated street value of $90.

Gareth Mayers, 56, of Montrose suburb pleaded guilty to dealing in cocaine when he appeared before Magistrate Marylene Mtshina.

He was remanded to June 15 on $100 bail.

Mayers was also ordered to report to Donnington police station three times a week until the matter has been finalised. For the state, Danmore Kasenza said on June 5 this year at around noon, CID Drugs detectives on a surveillance mission saw a woman approaching Mayers’ residence. Mayers then opened the door for the woman who was identified as Athea Josifakis.

“After about 10 minutes, the woman opened the gate accompanied by Mayers’ wife Silibaziso Mutandi. The detectives immediately pounced on the suspects and conducted a body search and they discovered some white stuff wrapped in a transparent plastic in the hands of Josifakis,” Kasenza said.

He said Josifakis was asked about the substance and she indicated it was cocaine she had bought from Mayers.

“The detectives, together with Josifakis and Mutandi, went back to the house where Mayers was seen swallowing some white stuff. He was arrested and taken to CID Drugs and Narcotics where the white stuff was tested and weighed in his presence,” added Kasenza.

He said the cocaine weighed 1.5g and had a street value of $150.
