A DISABLED local gospel artiste raised the county’s flag high in the recent gospel festival aimed at recognising and honouring disabled artistes worldwide.
Collen Marshal Moyo, based in Bulawayo, shined through his performance at the arts festival in Egypt where disabled gospel artistes from 32 countries performed. Worldwide entertainment showbiz was awash with posts from the event that made headlines in the print and broadcasting media.
Moyo released his seventh album recently, which is titled Malibongwe, where he gives thanks to the Lord for being with him in the difficult and demanding career of music.
For many disabled persons it is a challenge to make a breakthrough in the music industry, let alone in the African continent filled with renowned artistes that include Zimbabwe-born Knowledge Nkiwane, Tholakele, South Africans Rebecca Malope and Hlengiwe among others.
The seven-track album was warmly welcomed by abroad fans, a sign that his growth in the music industry is inevitable. Moyo, who is under Victory Sounds has worked with renowned musicians from other genres that include Jeys Marabini, Xolani Mhlanga, Breeze among others with most of his songs produced by talented Joe Maseko.
He told Sunday Life that he was overwhelmed with the invite and practised immensely so as to raise the country’s flag higher.
“When I got the invite, I knew it was a calling from the Lord that I should go and show them that as Zimbabwean artistes we can shine and shine brighter. My rehearsals were to represent the country at large and that was the challenge.
“The support I got from other artistes locally gave me the courage that I should defend and rise the gospel music industry of our country. I rubbed shoulders with other disabled artistes from the world where we mingled and shared ideas of developing our music,” he said.
The soft spoken Moyo thanked the talented 2017 Chibuku NeShamwari champions Ezimnyama Dance Group for the assistance he got in preparation for the tour to Egypt.
