A COLONEL with the Zimbabwe National Army appeared in court yesterday accused of raping his 20-year old house maid.
Jadnous Garira (54), of House Number 3 St Patrick’s Road, Hatfied in Harare, appeared before magistrate Mr Francis Mapfumo facing two counts of rape.
He was remanded out of custody to today for trial.
Prosecutor Mrs Idah Maromo alleges that on June 20 this year, the woman was engaged as a maid at Garira’s house.
It is alleged that Garira proposed love to the woman, but she turned him down.
It is alleged that on August 14 Garira entered the maid’s bedroom and raped her.
He had easy access into the maid’s bedroom because the door was faulty and could not lock.
Garira returned to his bedroom after committing the offence, it is alleged.
He allegedly raped the maid again the following morning.
As the maid was on her way to Hatfield Police Station to report the abuse, Garira reportedly told her the two of them could discuss the issue.
The maid later confided in her friend and they reported the abuse to the police.
