Men’s Health Month in 2024 will take place from 1 November 1 to 30 November. It is also known as Movember, a global campaign that encourages men to grow moustaches to raise awareness of men’s health issues.
It is a crucial time to raise awareness and break the stigma surrounding men’s mental well-being. We urge everyone to use this time to promote men’s mental health.
Men should know that it is okay to not be okay. We say this because men often feel pressured to hide emotions or “man up.” However, men should normalise seeking help and expressing feelings.
Men should be reminded that mental health is as important as physical health. Encouraging regular check-ins with mental health professionals is vital, just like physical health check-ups.
It is also important to let men know that they have the support of their communities. Millions of men face challenges like anxiety, depression, or stress.
The world must make it known that help is available, and recovery is possible. This will reduce the number of suicide cases among men. We note that suicide rates are disproportionately high among men. Therefore, creating safe spaces for open conversations can save lives.
Men’s Health Month is a time to promote mental well-being. This is because men have higher rates of mental health challenges than women and tend to be less likely to seek help.
It is time to encourage early detection. Men should get yearly screenings and check-ins to help prevent and treat health issues.
The awareness will help men start conversations. Men should feel comfortable talking about their health and seeking support when needed.
Some ways to build emotional intelligence and resilience include practicing mindfulness, which can help them become more aware of their thoughts and feelings.
Effective communication is key. Learning to express your emotions and listen to others can help you build relationships and reduce misunderstandings.
Self-reflection must be prioritised. Regularly reflecting on your emotions and experiences can help you identify areas for improvement.
