A 22-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo student will perform 350 hours of community service for knocking out a teenager’s teeth in a street fight on New Year’s Eve.

Bongani Moyo of Cowdray Park suburb appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Stephen Ndhlovu and pleaded guilty to an assault charge.

Magistrate Ndhlovu told him not to be violent.

“You were stupid to fight battles that have nothing to do with you. Do you understand the gravity of your offence? The complainant is permanently disfigured because of you. His teeth won’t grow back,” said Mr Ndhlovu.

“I won’t give you a custodial sentence because you are at school. You will perform 350 hours of community service.”

Prosecuting, Mr Brian Nkala said Moyo attacked the complainant Mr Mzingaye Moyo of Cowdray Park suburb after he had ganged up against his friend.

He said the complainant was attacked on December 31, 2016 at around midnight, at a road near TM Supermarket in Cowdray Park suburb.

“The complainant was headbutted on the mouth, leading to loss of his front teeth,” said Mr Nkala.
