FOR stealing three chickens from his aged mother, a 20-year-old Chikanga man will serve 105 hours of unpaid work at Murahwa Hill Primary School. Gamuchirai Ruvende pleaded guilty to theft charges after he stole his mother’s chickens. Mr Langton Mukwengi presided over the matter while Ms Christine Mwenga prosecuted. Ruvende was sentenced to three months imprisonment which was wholly suspended on condition that he performs 105 hours of community service at Murahwa Hill Primary School.
It was the State’s case that Ruvende, a heavy drug addict always pestered his mother for money to buy drugs. “He stole three chickens valued at $21 from his mother Ivy Ruvende and sold them so that he could get money to buy drugs,” said Mwenga. He admitted to stealing the chickens.
“Your Worship, I really needed the money and there was nowhere else I could get it,” he said.
