THE Kuwadzana and Dzivaresekwa community have joined hands to try and addressing what has become a black spot along Bulawayo Road where eight people perished last week.
Harare North district Crime Liaison Committee (CLC) chairperson, Alderman Samuel Chinyowa said community is pulling resources together for the construction of a police station close to the accident scene, the Dzivaresekwa turn off.
Churches under the Christian Community Police Network chaired by Apostle Benny Chabuka agreed with CLC in constructing a police station close to the accident black spot.
“We came to understand that the accident scene is adjacent to a new Kuwadzana Police Station site,” said Alderman Chinyowa.
“The station is currently invisible to Kuwadzana community because it is between houses where they are renting.
“As a community, we saw the need to join hands with various churches under CCPN in speeding up the construction of a new Kuwadzana Police Station.
“Police visibility at the site will not only reduce accidents but reduce murder cases reported around the area.
“Police needs community to effectively discharge their duties and our safety is in danger without them,” said Alderman Chinyowa.
Addressing church members at the accident scene on Saturday, Dzivaresekwa officer in charge, Chief Inspector Morgen Mwembe revealed that 12 people were murdered at the black spot as from October 2024.
“Let it be known that these accidents are taking place at a site expected to be a new Kuwadzana Police Station.
“We are fighting not accidents only, but other criminal cases that include murder cases and robberies.
“We have recorded 12 murder cases since October last year and this is painful.
“Let the church arrest evil spirits leading people to criminal activities and failing to respect the sanctity of life.
“As they convict the criminals by prayer, as police we will help in making sure we arrest all criminals and bring them to book for justice to take its course,” said Mwembe.
Church members spent the better part of Saturday praying at the accident scene and later visited the bereaved families.
