Con artist impersonates minister’s brother

Aneti Mbedzi, a finance manager with Fredjust (Pvt) Ltd was on Wednesday brought to court charged with defrauding Ms Li Chuanya, who was seeking Zimbabwean citizenship.
Mbedzi (56) of Kuwadzana 6, who appeared before magistrate Ms Sandra Mupindu, was lucky to escape the wrath of the law after the complainant decided to withdraw the charges against him. Ms Li Chuanya told the court that she had recovered her money and saw no reason to have Mbedzi prosecuted.

Charges against Mbedzi arose in January last year, when Chuanya was issued with a temporary work permit which expired on December 18 the same year.

She was given 60 days to process her papers by the Immigration Department. Sometime in February last year Mbedzi approached Chuanya in the City centre. He introduced himself as a young brother to Minister Mohadi.

He told her that being the minister’s young brother, he could assist her to acquire citizenship as he had done so before using the minister. After some days Mbedzi informed Chuanya that US$600 was required for the citizenship.
