Bulawayo city councillors have asked management to engage funeral parlours to assist in the rehabilitation of the road leading to Luveve Cemetery as it is in a very bad state.
Most of the city’s roads are in a poor state and the situation was worsened by the incessant rains received this year.
Councillor Sikhulekelani Moyo of Ward 17 raised concern about the poor state of the road leading to Luveve Cemetery and said management should engage funeral parlours so that they assist in the rehabilitation of the road.
Ward 2 Councillor Joyce Ndlovu concurred and said the funeral parlours’ vehicles were being damaged as a result of the poor state of the road.
The Director of Health Services, Dr Edwin Sibanda in response said some funeral parlours were already assisting council by providng mobile toilets at cemeteries during burials.
Dr Sibanda however said he will engage the parlours to find out if they could assist council in the maintenance of the road as part of their social responsibility programmes.
The Town Clerk Mr Christopher Dube said repairing and maintenance of roads was the responsibility of council.
He said council will therefore ensure that the bad road leading to Luveve Cemetery is attended to.
