A CONGOLESE national has been dragged to court facing fraud charges involving US$24 000.
Kabamba Abednico Jeabets was denied bail when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi yesterday.
He was remanded to November 3 for bail application.
Allegations are that on October 17, the complainant met Kabamba in Harare CBD.
He was told about a business proposal to buy scrap metal in DRC and sell it in South Africa. The two are related, as Kabamba is married to the complainant’s cousin.
The complainant agreed to the proposal, gave Kabamba US$24 400 to go ro the DRC.
He promised to return to Harare after a week. When the week lapsed, the complainant tried to contact Kabamba, but he was not answering his calls.
He eventually blocked the complainant.
The complainant contacted Kabamba’s wife, who is based in South Africa, who told him that her husband was in DRC.
However, the complainant had already been informed that Kabamba was in South Africa.
It is alleged that the complainant flew to South Africa and went to Kabamba’s wife’s house last Friday.
The complainant found Kabamba hiding at his wife’s residence, took him and drove back to Harare with him.
Pardon Dziva appeared for the State.
