THE Construction of an 11-kilometre stretch along Marondera-Hwedza Road in the Mushandirapamwe area is set to start soon after the Government handed over the stretch to a local contractor, Masimba Construction, to conduct the works.
This follows the rehabilitation and surfacing of the Marondera–Hwedza Road, a key agricultural route in Mashonaland East.
It is this road which most farmers use to transport their produce to markets in Mashonaland East, Chitungwiza, Harare and beyond.
In a statement, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development confirmed the development.
“Construction of the 11 km Mushandirapamwe bottleneck along the Marondera–Wedza Road has officially been handed over to Masimba Construction,” said the ministry.
“This marks a significant step towards easing congestion and improving the road infrastructure network.
“We remain committed to delivering modern, efficient road infrastructure that drives economic growth and regional development.”
The Government is also in the process of constructing the new Dema Toll Plaza along the Chitungwiza-Wedza highway.
The Dema Toll Plaza project is part of Zinara’s drive to modernise tolling infrastructure, aimed at easing congestion, improving efficiency, and enhancing convenience for motorists while securing additional revenue for road development.
Furthermore, the plaza will also see the upgrade of Seke Road, providing traffic from Marondera with an alternative route to Harare.
