Construction of a mausoleum at the National Heroes Acre in Harare, originally meant for the burial of former President Robert Mugabe is continuing, but the National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe cannot say what the building will be used for when handed over to them.
Building started in September within days of the death of the former President after agreement with his family and his two sons, Robert Jnr and Chatunga, helping to identify a suitable site.
The family then changed their position and the former President was buried at his rural home at Kutama, Zvimba.
In an interview on Sunday, National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe (NMMZ) executive director Dr Godfrey Mahachi confirmed building was continuing, but that the structure would only be handed over to the museums by the Department of Public Works when complete.
