adminAn overloaded boat capsized during a cruise around 6:30pm on Christmas Day. The boat, which carries seven people, had 13 children and three adults on board. The deceased were aged between six and 16 years.
All bodies were retrieved by members of the Police Sub-Aqua Unit the next day. The ill- fated boat started at Fish Eagle, a recreational facility operating along the shoreline and sailed across the lake before it capsized near Hunyani Hills Hotel.
One teen survivor Shanice Ruzvidzo (14) said that in the middle of the lake the driver asked them what they would do if the boat capsized.
When that happened she managed to catch a rope then climbed into a stationary boat nearby where she waited to be rescued.
Christmas Cheer for
children on the streets
More than 70 children living and working on the streets had an early Christmas treat at the Streets Ahead Centre in Harare last week on Wednesday.
It was all smiles as the young people embraced the spirit of sharing whatever was among them.
Some also took time to share their testimonies and resolutions for the coming year. Tendai (13) expressed joy and hope for the future as people have been very generous to him and the party offered a very good platform that also showed that the community cares for them through various donations from individuals and organisations:
“I cannot complain I am very happy and grateful to God for He has seen me through this year. It was not easy but through faith all went well.
“Though I have filled in that gap and I am happy ‘cause l know that I can count on them. They are all l have for now. I have a dream of sleeping in a luxurious bed and having a family that I call my own.”
Most young girls who were at the party also had some good resolutions, chief among them being of getting some identity cards and birth certificates through the assistance of Streets Ahead.
“One thing I am hoping for is to get a birth certificate so that at least I can be recognised among other people and in the near future I can get an identity card which might also allow me to do what other young people are doing “said Kimberly.

Cool Lifestyle turns one
The only teen paper in the country turned one and many almost 300 teens got a chance to celebrate our birthday with us. Tonderai “T Bone’ Hakuna, Timothy Hgo and Charmaine Picardo were there.
Freeman of the Joina City fame and Shastro were the icing on the cake providing some electrifying live entertainment. The day was mixed with some very serious messages on how teens can ensure that they keep their future bright by being Young for Real.
The Right Squad
The awareness campaign, put together by SAfAIDS, has become a tool to help change the lives especially the teens, because it its educating them on some things they never knew like their rights to freedom to control their own sexual reproductive lives (SRHR).
We are proud to say that Cool Lifestyle has been a part of this all the way.
A reality TV programme was launched and teenagers with a passion to eradicate HIV and Aids in order to build an HIV-free generation and help other teens to know more about their SRHR rights came to participate in this show.
Cool Lifestyle soccer team
This coolest soccer squad came into being and won the Harare Junior City Tournament. 2012 will see it grow and we are calling on teen girls who are soccer mad to come forward and make up their own squad to do the Cool Lifestyle colours.
