Cop killers nabbed

Two Harare men who reportedly killed a police officer and robbed him of US$48 have appeared in court to answer to a murder charge.
Raymond Maguri (25) of house number 6640 Kuwadzana 5 and Alois Samuel (24) of Epworth this week appeared before magistrate Mr Elijah Makomo.
The pair was not formally charged and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

They are expected back in court on October 22.
Prosecutor Mr Tungamirai Chakurira alleges that on September 28, the deceased Timothy Mbova, reported for duty at Harare Central Police Station.

It is the State case that he was deployed at the Chibuku Road to Fame Show at Harare Showgrounds from 1000 to 0200 the following day.
After completing his duty the police officer went to Harare Central police station where he was paid US$48, the court heard.

It is alleged that at the station, he changed into civilian clothing and packed his uniform in a satchel.
He left the station to look for transport to Mabvuku where he stayed.

He had his Nokia X2 cellphone. Around 0515 the police officer was found dead, lying half naked along Twentydales Road in Hatfield, it is alleged.

A post-mortem on his body revealed that he died due to suffocation.
On October 1, the police received information that Maguri was in possession of Mbova’s cellphone. He was arrested and the cell phone was recovered. He implicated Samuel, leading to his arrest.
