THE 10-year-old girl who was seriously injured after being attacked by a hyena early last month in Buhera has been discharged from Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, with one of her eyes now permanently damaged. Noria Musapukira, a Grade 5 pupil at Muchuwa Primary School who had her right eye plucked out, right buttock mauled and had bruises all over her body, was discharged yesterday after recovering.
Noria was attacked by a hyena early last month on her way home with a relative Melody Mundopa (17) from the nearby Mutiusinazita Market.
She said in an interview soon after being released from Parirenyatwa that she was feeling well, although some parts of her body were still in pain.
“When the hyena attacked me, I tried to fight back, but it overpowered me,” she said while narrating her ordeal.
“It only fled when some people came and chased it away as they rescued me.”
Noria’s aunt Mrs Anna Musapukira said she would go for check ups after every three days at Murambinda District Hospital.
“She is now in a stable condition and she will come back at Parirenyatwa Hospital on November 6 for a check up. At the moment, we are going back to Buhera.”
Mrs Musapukira applauded Buhera South legislator Cde Joseph Chinotimba for helping them from the start and for assisting them with medical bills.
Cde Chinotimba, who yesterday provided Noria and Mrs Musapukira with transport back to Buhera, thanked Parirenyatwa Hospital staff officials for the support and efforts they made in treating Noria.
“When she was admitted at the hospital, I never thought that she would make it because of her serious condition and I am happy that she is now in a stable condition and has been discharged,” he said.
Cde Chinotimba also thanked officials at Mbada Diamonds for assisting Noria.
He said people in his constituency were still living in fear as nothing had been done to ensure that the hyenas would not continue attacking the people. Cde Chinotimba said some of the hyenas were still being spotted during the day.
Noria was among five people who were seriously injured after being attacked by the hyena one after the other.
