Cop murder case: Informants were from MDC-T

names of the informants considering that some of them were MDC-T members who were known to the suspects.
The information came out during cross-examination by defence lawyer Ms Beatrice Mtetwa who was asking him to disclose the names of the informants relied upon by the police.
He was also trying to justify the failure by the police to conduct an identification parade in which the informants would identify the suspects.
Ms Mtetwa also accused the police of using the “profiling method” in arresting innocent people in public violence and political cases.
She said the police picked some of the murder suspects using the kept pictures and details linking them to MDC-T party.
Ms Mtetwa said some of the suspects were never at the scene, but they were simply picked up from their homes using the already kept profiles.
Det Chief Insp Ntini confirmed that several people were arrested and released without charge in connection with the murder of Insp Mutedza.
He said those people were freed after being cleared by police investigations.
The trial continues today at the High Court. Insp Mutedza was killed on May 29 last year at Glen View 3 Shopping Centre in public violence that broke out while he was performing his duties.
He was leading a police reaction group that had come to maintain order at the shops where violence reports had been recorded.
