deterred in developing its diamond industry.
“The preparations are at an advanced stage and we are just putting final touches otherwise we are set for the event next week.
“We know there are people who are not happy with what we are doing and so we are mindful of that in whatever we do, but we will not be hampered by that in achieving what we want for the benefit of our country,” he said.
The conference will be held from November 12-13 and diamond experts, policy makers, jewellery manufacturers and traders are expected to attend.
The conference is meant to clear misconceptions around the country’s diamond industry as well as promote the sector as a safe investment destination.
Among some of the high profile international speakers to grace the conference will be the current Kimberley Process Certification Scheme chairperson Mrs Gilian Milovanovic and representatives from the African Diamond Producers Association (ADPA).
Ministers from various countries in the Sadc region such as Namibia, South Africa, DRC and Angola are also expected.
Zimbabwe’s diamonds have been certified by the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, but the illegal sanctions imposed by Western countries have made it difficult for the country to trade its gems openly and get fair value.
