Midlands Bureau Chief
A GWERU police officer has been arrested for allegedly raping his drunk 16-year-old daughter.

The police officer allegedly raped his daughter inside his car whilst she was drunk on New Year’s Day.

The 37-year-old police officer who cannot be named to protect the identity of his daughter appeared before Gweru provincial magistrate Mr Edwin Marecha facing one count of rape.

He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to January 19 for plea recording.

Mr Marecha advised the police officer to apply to the High Court for bail.

It is the State’s case that on the day in question, the teenage girl, her stepmother and father were drinking whiskey celebrating the New Year.

The court heard that the complainant, her stepmother and her siblings went outside the house just after midnight to celebrate the New Year.

However, the police officer allegedly ordered them back into the house.

The court heard that the complainant went outside the house at around 1AM and entered the accused person’s vehicle which was parked outside the house.

The complainant started vomiting and the accused person came and told her to stay inside the car until he came back.

The court heard that the police officer came back to the vehicle and tried to communicate with his daughter who was continuously vomiting.

The accused person then allegedly removed his daughter’s clothes and raped her once without using protection.

After the act, the complainant was given a cloth to cover her body before she was ordered to go back inside the house.

In the morning, the court heard, the complainant complained of a headache before she was given pain killers by her father.

At around 8PM, the court heard that the complainant called her stepfather in South Africa and informed him that she had been raped by her father.

On January 2, the court heard, the complainant’s mother sent her brother to assist her to file a police report leading to the cop’s arrest.

The complainant reportedly has another rape complaint filed with St Mary’s police in Chitungwiza.

Police say the minor previously reported being raped by two other relatives.
