A policeman has approached the court seeking a downward variation in maintenance from $100 000 to $30 000.
He said his salary had been reduced and was not enough to cater for his child’s upkeep.
Samson Banhare took his wife Trish Tedza, to court pleading that his maintenance be reduced.
He told the court that he earns $49 000 and US$200 monthly
“I have rent to pay, parents to take care of and my salary is not enough to take care of all that.
“She is currently staying at our rural areas and l don’t know why she needs all that money,” he said.
However, Trish accused Samson of being a liar and opposed his application, saying $30 000 is only enough for school fees, not rent.
“He stays at his workplace for free and ever since I got married to him, he never took care of his parents or even bought a bar of soap for his mother.
“Staying in the rural areas doesn’t give him the right to deny us money. We also need food and I am currently pregnant with his other child,” she said.
Presiding Magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini dismissed the matter.
