THE 2015 edition of the Copa Coca Cola boys Under-16 and girls Under-17 soccer tournament gets underway today (Friday) with zonal competitions at various venues countrywide, while the official launch of the tournament will be held at Chidyamakono High School in Masvingo Province.
National Association for School Heads (NASH) head-in-charge for soccer, Albert Mucheka confirmed that the Copa Coca Cola boys Under-16 and girls Under-17 soccer tournament gets underway today (Friday) at various venues countrywide.
Mucheka said the start of this year’s edition of the tournament at zonal level coincides with the official launch of the 2015 edition which is slated for Chidyamakono High today.
“The Copa Coca Cola boys U-16 and girls U-17 soccer tournament starts on Friday (today). As usual we are going to start with competitions at zone level where teams seek qualification at districts competitions before qualifying for the provincial contest that eventually culminates into the national finals.
“We are also going to have our official launch at Chidyamakona High, the U-17 girls’ winners from last year’s edition of the competition,” said Mucheka in a telephone interview from his Zvishavane base.
This year’s national finals will be held in Bulawayo where Gifford High will be hosting the U-16 boys’ competition, while Montrose will be hosting the U-17 girls contest.
The finals in Bulawayo are scheduled for July 17 to 19.
Star-studded Chemhanza High of Mashonaland East were crowned champions of this prestigious schools soccer tournament at Gwanzura Stadium in the capital last year, while Chidyamakono High won the girls competition.
