SPONSORS of the country’s leading football development event Copa Coca-Cola are confident of staging an impressive 30th edition of the tournament, which kicks off later this month.

National finals of the premier schools tournament will be held in Zvishavane from July 12-14.

Vee Chibanda, Coca-Cola senior brand manager, said they expect zonal games to start on May 24, with district finals being played on June 8. The provincial finals have been set for June 22.

“It has been a fruitful 30-year journey and we are happy that we’ve so many players that we can refer to that have benefitted from Copa Coca-Cola. As the Coca-Cola company, we say we will continue supporting talent development. Our existence is because of people who support us and what better way to support talent from grassroots level other than such initiatives,” said Chibanda.

“This year’s edition should be bigger and better. We hope all schools will participate with the zeal to be part of the celebrations of this milestone. We want talent to be identified and players discovered to go on and realise their full potential,” she said.

The launch of the tournament will be held at the home of defending boys’ champions Rusununguko High School of Mashonaland East province.

Copa Coca-Cola’s objectives include inspiring young footballers to achieve their dreams through the competition by providing a global platform, camaraderie and opportunity for talented individuals to showcase their talent.
