Copa Dream Team leave for S Africa

The training camp features spe­cialised football training, multicultural friendship programmes, promotion of healthy living and active lifestyle.
Mavundla said the camp presents everyone with an opportunity to learn, including the technical team.
“We are ready for the trip. We are going there to learn, the players and the technical team. We are grateful to Coca-Cola for giving us this opportu­nity.
“We will represent the sponsors, Zimbabwe and our provinces where we are coming from,” said Mavundla.
The team is going to take part in a tournament featuring other countries from the continent and Mavundla said he expects the team to do well.
The Dream Team coach said they are pinning their hopes on a number of players, including Tandi Glynn, who was part of the team that went to Chelsea last year.
“It’s a wonderful lot I have and I think they are going to do well in South Africa.
“Tandi was in Chelsea and his expe­rience is going to be of value to us but we are going there to learn.
“I think some players will make it into the African team because they are a very talented lot,” said Mavundla.
Glynn said he was excited to have made it once again into the Dream Team. Obvious it’s exciting to go as a sen­ior. I believe I am still learning and will be learning in South Africa. I think my experience will help me just because I now know the levels of com­petition there,” said Glynn.
Rold Baloyi, sales and marketing executive at Delta, who is the head of delegation, said they want the young players to get international exposure.
“We are just going to give them experience and exposure to what it’s like being a professional footballer. We are taking them there to learn.
“Last year almost everyone in the team that went to Chelsea has been absorbed into the junior clubs.
“We expect the boys to do well in the group stages. We hope they will bring the trophy that comes with hard work,” said Baloyi.
Chelsea FC Foundation coaches will form part of a special coaching team that will oversee the training of 160 players from 15 countries at the COPA Coca-Cola international camp.
The coaches will take the young footballers through various skill drills designed to help improve their con­trol, shooting, dribbling, and passing.
They will also act as mentors to players during the 10-day camp.
Countries taking part in this year’s international camp include Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zam­bia, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, Lesotho, Rwanda, Burundi, Congo, DRC, Mauritius and Nigeria.
