Copa duo off to Germany

LEEROY Willie and Devine Khumalo, who participated in last year’s Copa Coca-Cola football tournament, left the country yesterday for a week-long training camp in Lindow, Germany.

Willie and Khumalo were selected from last year’s runners-up Oriel Boys and Mzilikazi School, who finished third in the national football finals in Harare.

They were chosen by their schools as the best players from their teams.

The two were accompanied by Coca-Cola brand manager Takunda Jinda, and the camp will be held from tomorrow until July 31.

Khumalo and Willie said they were excited to join players from other countries for a camp that will see them going through training to improve their skills.

They will also participate in workshops, games and tournaments.

“I am excited and I feel honoured to be one of the players going to Germany. This is my first time to travel outside Zimbabwe. I hope to learn more skills and working as a team,” said 15-year-old Willie.

Khumalo attributed his selection to hard work.

“I am so excited. I think it’s an opportunity for me to learn and improve my skills. I think this is all because of the hard work that I have put in as a player,” Khumalo said.

Oriel Boys coach, Shadreck Machihani, said this is an opportunity for the young players to get exposure.
