Copa players for Germany

TWO players from last year’s Copa Coca-Cola football tournament — Devine Khumalo and Leeroy Willie — have been awarded a grand opportunity as they are set to leave for Lindow, Germany today for a week-long training camp.

Khumalo is from Mzilikazi High School in Bulawayo and Willie is from Oriel Boys High School in Harare.

Mzilikazi, winners of the Copa Coca-Cola four times, were the best performing school from the Southern Region at last year’s national finals held in Harare where they reached the semi-finals. Oriel lost to Chemhanza in the 2014 final.

According to a press statement by Copa Coca-Cola, the camp runs from July 26 to July 31 and the chaperone of the team and Coca-Cola Zimbabwe Brand Manager Takunda Jinda said the camp was an opportunity for the young players to get exposure.

“We will be leaving via South Africa on Friday the 24th of July. We hope this will be a life-changing opportunity for many and particularly for Devine and Leeroy who were chosen from a huge pool of good players. They will be in a camp that lets one experience what it means to think, act, play your part, and win like a world champion.

“The next days will be packed with training, workshops, games, events and tournaments hosted by world-class football personalities to ensure one gets all the knowledge and expertise they need.

“Beyond that they will also have the chance to make new friends, experience different cultures, and visit Berlin — the capital of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Champions and one of the world’s most exciting cities,” said Jinda.

National Association of Secondary Heads president Johnson Madhuku speaking at this year’s Copa Coca-Cola national finals in Bulawayo at Barbourfields hailed Coca-Cola for affording the youngsters such an opportunity.
