Coronavirus threat sees James Bond film release postponed

THE 25th film in James Bond franchise, No Time to Die, will not be arriving in cinemas on 2 April (UK) and 10 April (USA) as expected.

Instead the latest edition of the action flick about a British Secret Service agent, created in 1953 by writer Ian Fleming, will now only release globally on 25 November due to the spread of Covid-19.

In a statement to Deadline by MGM, Universal, and Bond producers — Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli — it was announced that “after careful consideration and thorough evaluation of the global theatrical marketplace, the release of No Time to Die will be postponed until November 2020.”

According to the movie news website the film will now only be released in the UK on 12 November 2020 with worldwide release dates to follow.

Insiders say the decision was not necessarily based on health concerns solely but also considered the economic impact of releasing the film during a worldwide outbreak.

No Time to Die, starring Daniel Craig as the titular character, has been plagued by production problems and issues since filming started, including Daniel getting injured and director Danny Boyle withdrawing from the project and being replaced with Cary Fukunaga.

Earlier this year it was announced that 18-year-old singer-songwriter Billie Eilish would be performing the theme song for the film. — Entertainment24
